grow organic vegetables
dderat asked:

Does it matter, nutritionally, whether the chickens are fed a diet consisting primarily of organically grown vegetables or one that is primarily of organically grown grains?

No what matters is that the chicken should be a free range chicken like a farm yard chicken that walks all day around scratching for worms and seed. The eggs are delicious.

Hybrid layers free ranged in a barn will do better on a diet of grains. And that is what most grocery store organic eggs are from-basically indoor hens fed certified organic grain.

As far as organic eggs are concerned buy your eggs locally from someone who pastures/free ranges their hens and feeds cert organic feed (or at least GMO free grain). Be willing to pay $3.00 a dozen. they are worth it. The yolks will be a brilliant yellow and you will get vit D as well as omega 3’s and omega 6’s.

I find the heirloom breed lay tastier eggs than they hybrid breeds
