organic gardening help
b4clueless asked:

I currently live with my grandmother and she has a garden that REAKS of stinky and unnecessary plants. I tried to convince her to remove them and we’ll plant veggies and flowers..stuff we can actually use rather than have stinky leeks and other nonsense. How do I get rid of these plants the natural way so that I can start planting edible plants without her thinking that I had to do something with the demise of the stinky plants??? Please help, she is even getting neighbors interested in leeks and stuff!! I would really apprciatte it if any solution you guys give me wouldn’t end up hurting her or me in case we eat some leeks..just in case she wants to taste the plant to make sure it’s really gone bad,k? Thanks a bunch

put on some gloves, get on your hands and knees and pull them out of the ground. Anything you use on the ground will kill your GOOD plants too, and possibly make the ground unusable for some amount of time, so you wouldn’t be able to plant new ones there for a while. You’ll just have to pull the ones you don’t want.

Chelsea B has the right idea! Remove the roots and all.

If there are sooo many plants, try weed whacking and then roto-tilling (or just digging up the first six inches, removing roots, mixing well).

There’s this great stuff called Preen that prevents seeds from sprouting. Problem is that it works on all seeds (weeds and flowers and veggies) so you’ll have to plant plants that are already growing if you use Preen.

Good luck happy gardening!

Heres a thought, if you Grandmother would like to have leeks in her garden after all of her years on this earth, then why don’t you let her have leeks in HER garden?
I’m sure that you are 100% ccorrect about the garden being a mess, but sometimes we just have to deal with a few things to make our loved ones happy.
It just doesn’t seem right that you would deceive your Grandmother about her garden after she opened her home to you, fact is, you probably won’t deceive her at all, she didn’t survive this long on earth without learning a few things, you know!!
I’m just sayin…….

In answer to your question, you can over fertilize the garden.
I did that a couple of years ago and everything died quickly.

What is wrong with leeks? they are a wonderful vegetable. I grow about a thousand of them each year.

Get a potato/garden fork and start digging out the plants you do not want and either eat them if edible or start a compost pile with them. Be sure to remove all roots, add some compost, rake smooth and plant what you want.

you cant just tell her what to do with her garden.if she wants it like that then leave her.don’t force her to change the garden.just tell her that it bothers you.
