grow organic vegetables
Hollywood™ asked:

What vegetables do you grow (if any)?

Later on this year when the weather’s warmer I want to grow some cherry tomatoes in the greenhouse.

I posted this in VV because of the correltation between ‘vegetarians/vegans’ and ‘vegetables’. LOL. And I’m curious to know if any of you grow your own organic, homegrown veg.

I’ve grown my own stuff in the past; I don’t have the space now (living on the 3rd floor of an apartment building with a teensy patio).

In the past, I’ve grown tomatoes, potatoes, bell peppers, carrots, cucumbers, beans, black berries, parsley, leeks, strawberries, lettuce cabbage.

I don’t use pesticides as a general rule; I try to find alternatives to the chemicals, but I have been known to use organic compound pesticides (available from some finer garden centers) when the home-grown stuff didn’t cut it.

Yeah I grow strawberry’s, peppers, tomatoes, carrots, raspberry’s, Pumpkins….. I think, and yeah I know some of them are fruits. Lol Hope I helped you out!

Just! Some? *Dude* on 28 June, 2009 at 4:48 am #

Hey dude…….I grow what I can in my small city backyard. Tomatoes, habaneros, jalapenos, cayennes, green bells, banana peppers (Hungarian Wax peppers), oregano, cilantro, dill, and basil. A group of friends readily trades what they grow too so I have access to olther fresh grown produce as well.

Good luck with your garden! Freshly picked produce is so good it will spoil you away from store bought :-)
I use a product called Miracle-Gro and I doubt it’s organic. I don’t spray any pesticides organic or otherwise. Inner city pests of that variety are few and far between.

I don’t grow any because i’m a meat eater.

Might wanna take a look at this if you are a vegetarian though.

I am not a vegetarian but I eat a lot of vegetables with my meat and fish. I grow tomatoes, sweet peppers, hot peppers, long beans, lots of snow peas, green beans, beets, swiss chards, collard greens, chinese celery, cilantro, onions, garlic, ginger, chives, kohlrabi, mustard, potatoes, okra, eggplant, parsley and mainstays like asparagus and rhubarb. Homegrown vegetables are tasty, always fresh and free, very important to me in this economy. I do not use commercial fertilizer or pesticides. My garden thrives on kitchen and garden scraps that I have composted last year and a spray of multivitamins once a month that I dissolved in water. I get free shredded bark from the city and I use this as mulch, keeps the soil moist and saves me water, which translates in lower water bill. At the end of the growing season, I collect seeds from the plants to grow them next planting season so I do not have to spend money on packets of seeds.

I would grow my own veg, if they would grow!! Any plant unfortunate enough to be under my care dies as quickly as it can. If I plant seeds, they never emerge from the soil…

I personally am not so bothered about my food being organic, as long as it is cruelty free.

I do, I can’t wait for gardening weather to return!

I grow lettuce, spinach, tomatoes (slicers, paste tomatoes, and cherry tomatoes), cucumbers, peppers (hot, sweet, and frying), eggplant, strawberries, basil, oregano, parsley, cilantro, dill.

This year I’m planting onions, carrots, beets, radishes, sweet potatoes, potatoes, peas, and blueberries for the first time! I read a book about how potatoes are grown, and commercially grown potatoes are likely to be genetically modified, and are sprayed with pesticides constantly! If I can grow my own organic potatoes, I’ll feel much happier about eating them.

I always joke that by the time I’m done expanding my garden, there will be no lawn left. That would be fine by me!

my mom had a garden when I was a kid. We had lettuce, tomatoes, squash, strawberries, snow peas, …and I can not really remember what else. When I move into a house again I want to have a garden. It would be nice to have REALLY fresh salads :)

A good website for a gardener, especially organic, is:

Lots and lots of links and info.

YES. I am in a rental right now so grow my veggies in large pots.
This spring I’ll do Tomatoes, Peppers, Squash, Beans
I’m still eating Swiss chard from my Winter Garden.
We are getting warm here in coastal Texas so I doubt I’ll get more than a batch or 2 but it’s been yummy all winter.
100% organic.
