Insects and fungus continues on the increase. I never have used chemical pesticides or herbicides. The situation gets worse every year. 30 years ago I could plant a nice big garden and the pests were insignificant, and the weeds were manageable. Today insects totally inundate my garden, and weeds are completely out of control. I have weeds that look like potato plants, and weed that look like carrots, etc. I clean them out and do not let them seed, but they continue to get worse every year. Is organic farming a dead end road.

I just planted carrots, cantaloup, watermelon, strawberries, and oregon snow peas. I have them in raised beds. I can see bug holes in the melon dirt mounds! There are earwigs, ants of all different breeds, spiders, and lord only knows what some of the other bugs are.
My beds are surrounded with river rock, the bugs crawl under the rocks and makes nests in the mulch and dirt underneath.
What can I do to kill these bugs before they kill my garden???!!!???
(I also have pets, so it needs to be non-toxic)

I have a garden in my backyard. I planted lettuce, carrots, watermelon, potatoes, onions, strawberries, raspberries, blueberries, catnip, tomatoes, basil, cilantro, cucumbers and peppers. There all spaced right, and I’ve added organic fertilizer (peat) and I keep my garden plants up on stakes, still they aren’t growing like a normal specimen would be. Its been almost 78 days since I planted everything, other than the stunted growth, they look very very healthy, and I clipped back most of the smaller leaves. Any tips on how I can make my garden grow?

I was thinking about starting an outdoor organic garden in the spring and I was wondering what I should do to start it…I’m thinking about growing veggies like tomatoes, carrots, cucumbers, zuchtinnis, and pumpkins. Can you give me tips on growing each veggie? How much water do they need? Direct or indirect sunlight? Anything else?
more details please…i don’t want to go to another site…just sum it up in your answer please, or give me helpful resources…do i just do it in the ground or in a box?
