Grow your own (go pesticide free in your garden first) or buy certified organic.
I understand where you are coming from on your concerns, but it is very important to eat 5 servings a day.
Educating yourself is the best key to all of your answers. We have been pesticide free with our gardens for years (we have 2 dogs and a fish pond) and the key is proper irrigation, composting the mulch on your lawn, etc….
Well, your body needs certain things from certain foods, so I think it is more beneficial to eat vegetables, than to not eat them because of what may be in them.
Before a company can call a food organic, it must go through a certification process. Check out wikipedia to find some credible external links. I enclosed the USDA’s site below.
Organic is better, because it is less likely to be green harvested (picked super early while still green, sprayed to keep it from ripening, shipped to around the world, then sprayed again to ripen really fast, and then sold in grocery stores) and will have more nutrients. Most of the antioxidants, and minerals found in produce aren’t transferred into the produce until the last 24 hours of ripening.
Also, organic is better because it supports smaller businesses/farmers, and most times, it tastes better. Now because it isn’t sprayed or pumped full of crap, it may be smaller, or not quite as pretty.
Also, most countries will not label genetically modified foods organic, which is good. The U.S. had modified some corn, but it was not approved by the FDA. Somehow, the modified corn had gotten into the food supply and there was a huge rash of food allergies for a couple of years.
Some countries will not accept food aid from the United States if it is genetically modified.
Or, if you have the means and the desire, you can just grow your own produce so you’ll know exactly what is in it.
every food seems to kill you these days lol but trust me veggies and fruit are the best food you can feed your body!!! they have minerals/vitamins and fiber (the stuff that keeps you regular) which you need! don’t ever give up on veggies if you wanna live till you’re 100… it’s a must. all you have to do is wash your vegetables under running water when you buy them then cook them of course. simple and voila :p Emma Kate xoxo
Eat them, just buy them from Whole foods.
