We do homeschooling based on what she is interested in then plug in math, reading, etc into that interest. So, I guess my question is……..
Does anyone know of good kid friendly sites that I can help base our studies around? Or any sites that would basically just help me out? We have just started the whole organic gardening/eating different thing and are trying very hard to learn more.
busymom, Please tell your daughter thank you very much. Those sites were perfect. Exactly the kind of info I’m looking for.
The educational tool for the new ages is called Factor Academics (R) it is a multiplication and math mathematical rap tool that comes in different versions from CD, to DVD, to to software applications. FA has been called the next Beenie Baby for its ingenuity; kids love it and they learn too. This year a three year old is rapping math to the coolest beats.

You are welcome, and I will tell her.
My 9 year old son is the same! He goes shopping with me and checks that everything is organic, and checks out cookbooks from the library to find new recipes. He is earning money to buy a compost container for the backyard and plotting out his organic garden
He checks everything to make sure that we’re recycling properly and is doing a summer-long project on ecology. Perfect homeschool project
He is mostly vegetarian but will eat chicken and fish, red meat is pretty much out unless we’re at someone’s house. His friend’s parents took him out to Krispy Kreme and got treated to more info on trans fats than they ever wanted to know, lol!
What we did is check out books from the library on nutrition and organic gardening, as well as some eco-craft project books. Mollie Katzen (Moosewood Lodge) has some great books that are appropriate for kids! We went through his nutritional needs for each day so that he could see just how much protein (veg or meat) he needs, and how to get all the nutrients.
Something that I found that helped him was doing a lapbook on the subject…he could research to his heart’s delight and record the information that was important to him for review later on. You might want to look into letting her lapbook or notebook what she finds, it’s easier to have it in one place, in a way that makes sense.
I also appreciate the sites that were listed, I’ll check those out. Sorry I don’t have more help for you, but wanted to let you know you weren’t the only one homeschooling a 9yo hippie!
