organic gardening
Em asked:

Hello! I live in the city, and there are roaches EVERYWHERE. My next door neighbors have a huge roach problem. I have a lizard living in my kitchen, so at least for the moment, I don’t have any roaches in the house. Unfortunately, I don’t think it would be humane to release lizards in my backyard, as they would die when it got colder. Any ideas on how I could grow an organic garden in my backyard while keeping the roaches off my food?

set up a small greenhouse. Be sure to set up small traps about it as well, and maybe some other things as well.

you.can make your garden in use (moth balls) that is what my aunt uses 365 days a year she all so lives in the city she surrounds her garden with moth balls in the roaches do not like the smell they will stay away as long as you add these mothballs they do not cost a lot of money

Use pesticides.

There are a lot of organic pest control products now that you could use around the perimeter- but man, don’t use mothballs- they’re absolutely poison- and bad poison- and if a child finds one they pop it right in their mouth.

green house
spray around property and outside of greenhouse or garden

I am not sure if they will eat fresh food since they are more into garbage, but heck you never know! Some ppl plant marigolds and other flowers that bugs do not like. Try putting those as a border in your garden. You could also mix together boric acid (aka borax-not toxic to kids or pets and biodegradable)and a little water and spray around perimeter. You can make traps for your house by adding sugar to the borax mixture. It takes a few rounds of this to kill them. Can you call the health dept on your neighbor? Good luck.

See about raising bantam chickens or quail. Cats may be a problem but cats will be a problem in your garden even if you don’t raise the quail and chickens. Cats will fill your yard with diseased cat mess. Cat mess is not the kind of organic manure anyone needs in an organic garden. Perhaps you could keep the bantam chickens in a cage at night and let them out during the times you are home working in the garden. I would also plant a lot of Marigolds. They repel flies, may-be they will work on roaches. Other than that I would use roach traps, lots of them. Perhaps that ultra sonic roach and mouse pest repellent noise device will work. I have a big garden and it doesn’t attract roaches, roaches around here don’t eat fresh vegetables and if they get on them, so what, I wash the vegetables off.
