organic gardening help
happy asked:

I live in Vietnam and am lucky to be able to buy crushed coconut skin and shell very easily. I mix it with clay and sand for to use in all my plant pots. Would the coconut mix be counted or said to br organic matter. Thanks.

most everything organic that rots is good for the Compost pile; use it . it sounds good. you should do another ASK for the nutrient value

I have already been long in the ornamental plant hobby but I had not come across crushed coconut skin and shell here in the Philippines. I use coconut husk for various orchids and anthurium potting materials since these husks absorbs moisture which in turn are used by my plants. If what you mix with your potting soil is not yet decomposted, it can not be called ‘organic’ yet. Until such time that these decomposed can it be used by your plants. But meantime, these materials is good for your potted plants because you now have a mixture of soil which will easily be drained of unnecessary water. Too much water is also not good for the plants.

I have been using coir grow pellets for starting my peppers. I have better luck with coir. Coir holds more air than peat and if your starting hot peppers from seeds, this could be a life saver.
