My results from the Va Tech soil testing lab lists organic matter at 1.7%. Is that enough? I wish they listed ideal ranges on the explanation sheet that comes with it. Everything else looks pretty good, as best I can understand it.

Yes, but I wouldn’t call this ideal, but that’s about what my garden has and it does very good. At the end of the growing season, you my want to add some leaves or straw, along with some chicken, horse, or cow manure to your garden and till them under.

That’s on the low side but things should grow well. To get the OM up add compost several times a year and plant cover crops/green manure when you can and turn in the crop. Use straw and other natural materials for mulch and let the mulch rot on the beds. These things will get your OM up in a couple of years to 3% to 4% where you want the OM to be
