organic gardening tips
Danielle D asked:

I was thinking about starting an outdoor organic garden in the spring and I was wondering what I should do to start it…I’m thinking about growing veggies like tomatoes, carrots, cucumbers, zuchtinnis, and pumpkins. Can you give me tips on growing each veggie? How much water do they need? Direct or indirect sunlight? Anything else?
more details please…i don’t want to go to another site…just sum it up in your answer please, or give me helpful resources…do i just do it in the ground or in a box?

Visit a garden centre. Look at their book section. ‘Be your own vegetable expert’ is the book for you! Homebase sell them too.

Baybee the best I’ve found is Mel Bartholomew’s Square Foot Gardening Techniques. He has an on-line site for further information or check out his updated book from the free public library.

For a vegetable garden, you need full sun. The more sun the better. As for other details, so much depends on your site, and your preferences.

If your soil is good, just till it, loosen it up and add compost and you are good to go.

If your soil is clay, or compacted, a raised bed (box) will be good, but you will need to bring in good soil.

You will always be perfecting your garden. Just start and learn as you go. A good source is
