Adgie asked:

Can you successfully freeze lettuce and how to use it when it is removed from the freezer do you just let it defrost?

I have some organic lettuce from my garden more than I can eat and want to use it.

No, you really can’t freeze lettuce because it will go all mushy on you.

No, you can’t freeze lettuce. It turns to gooey slime.

Make a giant salad. Share some with your friends and co-workers.

Never happen. It doesn’t work. I suppose if you wanted to try, you could blanch it, then freeze it. I think it would hold up MUCH worse than spinach.

Lettuce has too high of a water content to freeze. The guy above is right, it would be slimy just like frozen spinach.

As others have said, Freezing does not agree with lettuce.

One thing I recommend trying is cooking with it. A quick saute works very well with some lettuce varieties. Not iceberg but many leaf lettuces.

No, it is awful and mushy when thawed. Eat a lot of salad. Give it away.
