I am wanting to plant soybeans in my garden this year. I’m wondering if I buy soybeans that are organic from the health food store, will they grow more soybean plants? Or do I need to plant a certain type of soybean? If I do, where can I buy seeds in bulk, about 2 to 5 lbs, instead of in small packets?

I have always been interested in having a garden of my own. In fact I have already doing my research in ‘Living Raw.’ So, rescently I have just purchesed a 4 in Organic Sweet Basil plant. It’s cute and small. If I put the small plant in a huge pot (with the added soil to fill it up), will the Herb grow in larger amounts?? I just want more for the buck by giving the small plant more room to grow wild. Is this possible??

Hello all,

I’ve seen so much about planting seeds indoors, it seems the cost is way to expensive to even try it (just get the transplants). The problem is I really don’t want transplants this year, but I really don’t wanna spend crazy amounts of money on getting seeds started. From what I’ve read I need grow lights, mats, seed starting mix, organic containers to put them in.

So my first thought is….what did people do thousands and millions of years (or maybe even my grandpa’s generation) ago before gardening became commercial?

My question is…
Do I really need a heated mat, lights, blah, blah blah. I’ve read a little about putting seeds on top of the fridge (which is waaaay cheaper than the mats and lights!) So please let me know! Do I need all the expensive stuff from burpee.com or is there old fashioned, tried and true ways I can get my seeds going?

BTW - I a container gardener this year :)
Thanks!
So for seeds all I need is miracle gro potting soil and not some seed starting mix???

I live in an apartment, but grew up in the country. One thing I miss about that was having the space to have a garden. I also live in Arizona (moved from Louisiana) so the climate is much different from what I’m used to.

Does anyone know where I can find any information on starting an organic, edible garden with limited space, such as on a patio?

so, the reason I am starting my own veggi garden is because people around here keep getting sick from the fruits being sold in stores (testing positive for salmonella and e coli) they traced it back to the veggi farms where they are using fetilizer tainted with this.

Anyways, I want to find soil that doesnt contain anything with animal stuff so i can keep my family safe (of course we wash the produce before consuming but that doesnt always work especially with spinish) and preferably organic.

i was thinknig about a hydroponic garden but that would be too complicated to build as we already have a green house but arent interested in hooking anything up like tha.t

thanks.

I have a balcony garden, and am growing all edibles. I would some natural and organic solutions to the recent problem of gnats. It might help to know what caused this situation in the first place,(ideas?), and some natural solutions to combat it.

I’m assuming that they are gnats? They look like them anyway. If they are gnats, do they pose a problem to the garden?

Thanks very much.

ok, my friends and i will be working on a large market garden for the first time; although all of us have extensive gardening experience. We have a friend who has been a successful organic grower for 25 yrs as a consultant. we have dozens of people who want to volunteer and we are funded. the land is flat and excellent quality soil. is 15 acres too much for the first season, or with our experience, consultants, funding and volunteers is it doable? we have some very good reasons for wanting to cultivate so much acreage. email me if you need more info.

What can I mix with Ocean Forest soil? Witch is Fox Farms brand. All organic. For example, Mixing other viable ingredients, to enhance the over all soil for a perfect soil mixture. A mixture that carries a lot of the important factors. Or is just the Fox Farms soil enough as is? Thanks

I want to grow a small garden, not just for my family to enjoy but also for a small profit. Not looking for a business here, just a small sideline. What are good, profitable ideas? I am fairly new to gardening, so nothing too difficult to grow preferably. Also, would flowers or fruit/veggies be a better seller? Do I need to get certified/tested or anything to sell food?

We have 3 apple trees that grow many apples every year. We don’t do anything to the trees (so could they be sold as organic?). How can I tell when they are ready to be picked and what kind they are?

Thanks!
