In anticipation of Spring, I’ve been clearing out the garden! But there’s a problem! I see that there are a bunch of common (carpenter I guess) ants swarming all over that plot. I want to get rid of them so they don’t eat/ steal the seeds or the plants! But I’m hoping for an all-organic garden of veggies this summer so does anyone know something natural/ organic I could spread on the ground or some sort of plant that would repel the ants? I need them to relocate! :( Hehe… notice how I said repel, relocate…….. not kill. I just wish I could keep them out of that area. I don’t want them to eat my plants. =[ I need to live off of what I produce……
I would be happy with the ants living anywhere else in the yard. I want them to live and of course they are a beneficial part of the environment.

So, this year i am going to try to be more healthy and was going to build and organic garden and green house. I have a make it yourself green house but im not too good on gardening. i wanted to plant tomatoes, cucumbers, fruits and vegetables that are sustainable in this wisconsin weather. but like i said, i suck at gardening. so i was wondering if some people with green thumbs could help. i need it really bad. i would just need information on how to keep it growing once i planted them. and i don’t have that much gardening lingo, so try to dumb it down. :P

Thanks!!!!

I want to learn to grow food in my home (food that I can move with me in a few months). I have been searching online for simple step by step instructions for starting to grow just one or two vegetables inside and I can’t come up with anything. Please share your knowledge kitchen gardeners!

P.S. I live in Colorado. It is very sunny here so that won’t be an issue. It is dry here also though.

I have been growing my own vegetables and herbs for a bit now, and am starting to grow some surplus. The farmers markets around here all require registration, and I don’t think that I can produce enough to make it a regular thing. What can I do to peddle my surplus produce? It’s all organic, and I don’t think you can get more local than my backyard.

I’d like to grow a garden this year but I know people who have their own gardens where it seems like animals have gone through and eaten some. I’d like to grow a nice, healthy garden without any of those problems. How can I keep bugs and animals away from my garden without using chemicals. I want to grow an organic garden. Thank you.

I had a pepper plant that was growing really well then I saw a bunch of white bugs on it. I wanted to spray it with something natural (organic) to get rid of the bugs. This year I am going to try lettuce, tomatoes, and peppers again. What could I use that woudl be natural? Someone said soap and water but that just means more chemicals. Any ideas???
And just to reiterate this is an indoor vegetable garden.

My 73-year old grandfather is currently living with us and has started buying and storing bags of fertilizer with his blasting cap collection in our basement.

Now I support my grandfather’s recent interest in gardening as well as his other hobbies (I even bought him an expensive old blueprint of the local police academy from eBay once, where he studied until he flunked out). But I’m more an organic kinda guy, and I don’t want those chemical fertilizers seeping into our local water supply. Can you offer any suggestions on how I can convince him to switch to more environmentally friendly compost?

UPDATE: Great. Now he’s also started storing electrical what-not in the bathroom closet. Probably gonna make his own sprinklers too.
