Since most gardening and farming is centered around conventional growing, good practical organic sources of fertilizers can be difficult to find, are expensive, or just a lot of work to deal with. But there is a rapidly growing form of gardening that has a never ending source of organic fertilizers for plants already built into the system.

Organic sources of fertilizer like manure, cover crops, green manure, composting and other similar sources all have one thing in common. They usually involve a lot of work. And some are just not practically available to a lot of people. And manure is just…well… it’s manure and just not a lot of fun to deal with. Then there are commercially available sources of organic fertilizers. But these are often expensive, and many of them have a horrible odor, and some you just have to question how organic they really are.

Sometimes to get what you want, you have to look outside the box. Many gardeners have done just that and they are getting spectacular results with a system called aquaponics. Aquaponics is a way to grow plants that is 100% organic, and the fertilizer is built into the system. Not only is this an easier way to grow plants, it can also be a lot more fun.
