I am a suburban single mom looking to start a mini farm- vegetable garden, raise animals (rabbits, chickens), etc. I already have area set aside for garden, I compost and am trying to be more green in my lifestyle. Does anybody have any general words of wisdom or advice for a beginner? I am hoping this will be a good lesson for kids as well… I have been reading sustainability books and organic gardening texts and feel semi-confident that this project is do-able, but any practical advice or experiences would be very helpful. Thanks in advance!

I’m teaching a class to 6th-9th graders this summer on environmental issues. One of the projects I wanted to do was to have them make their own organic paint and use it to make handprint t-shirts where they paint their hand and press it onto their t-shirts. I wanted to tie this into a discussion about reducing your carbon footprint (or in this case handprint). I’m going to be teaching about 100 kids throughout the day, divided into classes of 20-25 people. Ideally I’d like to make a batch for each class so they can be involved in the process. Since I’m working for a nonprofit though, I need it to be cheap and, for the kids sake, easy. A lot of the websites I’ve looked at use basic flour/water recipes but also call for filler clay, etc. It would be awesome if someone could give me a super simple, cheap, easy, kid-friendly and eco-friendly paint recipe.

and if you want to throw in any other fun eco-friendly project ideas that would be awesome!!!

I’m 33, married, with 3 young children. Me and my husband’s dream is to live and work on an organic/natural farm, particularly vegetables/fruit. We have three small children. We are not farmers so we would need an opportunity to learn while working. Very modest pay only - mainly just need a place to live/sleep and food to eat. Does this type of opportunity exist for families or is it just for single, young adults?

I found great green party planning tips from this article and some others http://www.celebratewithstyle.com/site/DisplayArticleEcoFriendlyParties
I want to raise some eco awareness (sort of a party for a cause) using eco-friendly party decor, food, etc. but still very elegant and classy. This way guests will see that you don’t have to sacrifice style to live green.

This will be a cocktail party :) so I need some green appetizers and maybe some beverages

I want to become a small organic vegetable farmer, it has over the past couple of years become my biggest dream and goal. But right now I rent, in an area with no capital earning potential, and I really would like to move my kids to somewhere that they can go to a really good school. Definitely willing to relocate anywhere (almost) in the US or in Canada. Is there any kind of a grant, or program that I can apply to, that can help me achieve my dream? I was born a city girl unfortunately, but I’ve had a bit of gardening experience now and this is my calling. Thank you for your help in advance.

grow organic vegetables
DarʞWaʌer asked:

Does this sound like a good plan to you, and does it sound affordable?

First I am going to try and grow my own fruits and vegetables. I am cutting all meats out, and definitely fast food because it is disgusting. The only thing I ever drink is Tea, Real Lemonade, Soy Milk, and Juice. I’m going to try and make a lot of things homemade instead of buying them. And I’m a big fan of pasta, so that’s good right?

Ok then skincare is something I’m very big on.
I’m going to make my own facial routines. I am going to make my own shampoos and conditioners, which I already do. I’m going to try out crystal deodorant. I’m going to switch over to organic make-up. I will try and either make my own soap or buy some organic soap.

Oh and I can’t switch over to organic cleaning products yet because I still live with my parents and they do not understand how scary some of the stuff is that we use in our lives.

And here’s a big question, Is it easier to save money on buying organic stuff, or making your own stuff?

Please add in anything you would like to share, and anything that I am missing or need to adjust to.

one of these days im gonna go live in the wild and be all natural. too much distractions in city life. im gonna build a loghouse all by myself and live in a forest on a mountain near a river with wolves and lots of fresh air. im gonna plant a garden and eat purely organic vegtables and fruits. is there anything bad about this? be serious. :) have a nice day! :)))))

organic food

As we all know, organic food prices are higher than those of which were conventionally grown. Can the stimulus bill that was just passed help out the organic food industry, therefore lowering down prices? Or will this issue be swept under the carpet?
