I don’t have the time to cook gourmet dinners and I don’t have the money to buy fancy designer organic food but I also don’t want to eat cheese wiz or hungry man dinners. I’m not so concerned about losing weight but I would like to feel healthy and satisfied. I just want some good tasting, healthy and wholesome real food. Help! What is real food today? What are real food recipes? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

We had the contaminated spinach linked to organic farming now the carrot juice recall linked to organic farming http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/15163262/ . We are told that organic is healthier yet people are dieing or getting seriously ill from eating the stuff. Can we really trust all the hype about organic or is organic downright dangerous?
I think it is the mere fact that organic vegetables are grown in manure that makes them unhealthy. Just think, you wouldn’t wipe your carrot on a cows bottom before eating it, but that’s exactly what you are doing when you eat vegetables grown in manure. The problem is that the bacteria get inside the plant cells and washing can’t remove them.

There’s no cover-up, its just that there is no scientific evidence to show that trace amounts of pesticides on food cause harm. As far as GMO goes, there is yet to be a single confirmed case of harm resulting from eating GM food. So which would you choose? Personally I worry about organic, because of the constant reports of death and poisoning resulting from the eating the stuff. There must be a good reason that life expectancy shot up when modern farming was introduced. Before everything was organic and life expectancy was low. Go figure.

I would spend mostly on the meat.

Would this be cheaper than buying at a conventional grocery store?

My son has a problem of not eating his vegatables. He has no problem eating fruits what so ever but the leafy greans is just a slight problem. He likes corn, potatoes (not fries), carrots and occasionally green beans. We also eat all whole grain and usually hearty pasta never the white bread or the fatty fast foods. Organic stuff is usually what we consume as well like organic milk and fruits. I also have my own garden which I grow lots of stuff. I also make him take a multi-vitamin everyday. What do you think will happen to him in the future? Any ideas? Thanks

B Miller asked:

I just finished watching the movie Food Inc. and I was fairly disgusted for a variety of reasons. And being the idealistic college student with nothing better to do, I decided that I’m going to try and alter my lifestyle at least a little bit so I don’t feel so guilty after watching it. But here’s the problem. I live in a college dorm that does not include a kitchen. My parents have already paid for a meal plan at the campus cafeteria so I am more or less stuck eating there for the majority of my meals. (Extra probably unneeded information: I am currently in the habit of eating only two meals a day.) With my situation most of the suggestions listed at the end of the film are impossible for me, i.e. buying locally grown food, buying organic food, planting a garden, checking the labels, etc. The quality of food at the cafeteria is very poor indeed. It does however feature a vegan corner. I do not plan on becoming a vegan at any time in the foreseeable future (although I may slowly ween myself off of meat.) But for the present time and my present circumstance would it make sense to eat the majority of my meals from the vegan corner? Or is the food in the vegan corner going to ultimately be mass-produced, industrialized garbage like the rest probably is? Even if it is, would eating vegan at least be a step in the right direction? Also, what should I drink? My options are milk, soda, water, or fruit juice. If you have finished reading my question to the end I applaud your effort. Thank you very much.
