I have two dogs and an all organic vegetable garden. I see that snails have been getting to my zucchini and yellow squash plants. I think this is happening at night since I do not see them during the day. I am looking for something that is not harmful to pets in case they get through the patch fence. I also do not want anything with chemicals (hence the organic soil and vegetables). I have read that salt works for some people, but am worried it may not be good for these vegetable since they are so new anyway. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated!
I have planted sunflowers in the ground and an herb garden in pots. I am starting to see holes in the leaves that obviously are being attacked and eaten by pests I haven’t even seen. I tried one pest spray, but it isn’t cutting it. Can someone recommend a spray or technique to eliminate this problem. If possible, I want to avoid toxic methods as I use organic fertilizers. Thanks for any help and advice.

I have fruit set on my early girl tomato, but the fruit appears to be growing no larger been over 2 weeks and no change in fruit size or color. Is there something I might be doing wrong?
A couple weeks ago we had some drastic fluctuations in temp. and pretty heavy rain where the plant was practically drowned. added extra drainage and pruned damaged areas and plant recovered … however it does have curly leaf and some of the new flowers don’t appear to be setting properly but I think that might be from the wild temps. I water 1-2 times per week depending on the temp and fertilize every 14-20 days. Container has two companion marigolds growing with it. While plant is in a container it is not root bound and does continue to put new growth and flowers on every day. Soil mixture of loamy peat, potting soil with perlite and moisture control miracle grow mix. I use an organic spray to control pests and powdery mildew gets a fine mist every 30 days or so *mum said to use the one for roses and vegetables.*
I do allot of yard work during the spring and summer months and my hands get very callused. I’m not big on using chemicals on my skin. I have a HUGE herb garden so i was wondering if there was anything in there that i can use… i know almonds and oats work… but they can get expensive….. any ideas? I would really appreciate it.
What can I use in the garden for insects. I have tomato worms Potato bugs caterpillars that are the ones that pull all the needles from the spruce tree make the webs in the other trees.
I don’t know the names of the bugs just there slang names around here.
I would prefer home remedy’s.
I have a very large area around 2 retaining walls that I am converting into flower beds. I already have the black industrial border down, so now I’m wondering about how to go about the rest.
If I would have gotten this industrious last year, I could already have a good set up, but I’m wanting to do it now! Originally I was just going to dig it all up, and pick out the bad stuff. But now I’m wondering if I can lay newspaper down, and topsoil/organic matter and speed things up. But I’m worried my flowers won’t be able to establish roots, with the newspaper in thier way. Any suggestions?
I live in Saint Paul Minnesota, I was thinking about doing raised beds because the soil at our house is is clay based. I need help finding everything to start this garden, soil, seeds, etc. I have found a few websites that have organic seeds but most of them you have to buy the seeds in bulk. I need help on what I can grow in this climate. I would love to have strawberries! 3 Anything helps! Thanks!
Can Monsanto take my single family residence in the city for having a garden and not knowing where the seeds came from that were bought on ebay? I am afraid that by trying to save money on groceries, feed my family healthy organic home grown vegetables, and showing my children how vegetables are grown, I will in fact be losing the roof over our heads. Is there a safe country to move to where people live freely without losing everything to attorneys and big companies or government?
I started a veggie garden. I bought 8 small tomato plants that are already in the ground doing good. I also grew about a dozen plants from seeds that are doing good as well ready for transplanting into the ground in about 1 more week. I cannot seem to find a tomato specific organic fertilizer with the good NPK ratio. Any recommendations?
