I’ve read that garden sulfur is preferred, but also that urea is commonly used. Would urine itself have too high of a sodium content, thus proving ineffective or counterproductive….on a small scale.

I am totally new to gardening and have a potted dwarf lime tree and cherry tomato plant in my backyard.
What can I use that’s organic to keep bugs away?

I use organic gardening methods and rotate crops yearly. They’ve been fertilized with an organic fertizlizer and there seems to be no bug problems. Both years this has occured just as they’re big enough to start sprouting heads. I don’t think it’s a watering problem but I’m just not sure.

O.K. ohiorgan.. your link has a virus, so I suggest noone click on to it. Why would I read a gov evaluation of their own bill? Also, now my above link is invalid, so I am adding it so that the video that I referenced can be seen.

Be courteous please.
O.K. Queenie,
I think you better look at the link I have given. It will make it difficult for you to get your organic food.
This whole issue is much bigger than you wanting to eat organic food!

But I figured that no one really cared right now. They will later when the garden police come to their home with fines and we end up with no civil rights at all!

Let’s just all sit back and let it happen.
Greasy - thanks for your links. It is obvious that you did not read the bill.

AnitraWeb asked:

A group in our apartment building is starting our first garden in a new, raised-bed plot (about 70 sq.ft.) with very sterile, sandy-loam soil. We have some donated steer manure to add, and we may get a few other amendments, but we have a very limited budget. We can get quite a lot of coffee grounds, potato peelings, apple peelings, and banana skins very quickly, but we do not have time to compost them (not this year!)

I have read that worms will eat cooked potatoes, but not raw potatoes. (Not that we have worms yet, but I’m hoping to get some.) If I cook the potato skins, shred everything up, and add some molasses to help the bacteria along, can we mix the resulting mess directly into the soil?
No, it’s not raw steer manure, it’s already composted.

I’m learning a lot from all of you, thank you!

For a while I thought about going all organic but then stopped to think…

organic means no growth hormones or anything like that
no growth spurts means less production
less production means less to eat
therefore we would need more land

I know there are people out there like me that wouldn’t mind eating out of our own organic gardens (I think my free fruits taste better than even things I can find in whole foods) but what about everyone else? I’m sure if people ate less and stuff that would help too. But even then is that a realistic idea? What if it was just food? What if it was everything?
