For the past 2 or 3 years in our backyard garden. We have planted sweet corn in 4 or 5 rows, and we yeild nearly nothing. Why would this be, anyone have any good tips, we do grow organic so it is a little bit harder. We have other things that do real well, Zucchini, Tomatoes, Peppers, carrots, radishes, it is a good size, just cannot figure why no or just small cobs from corn. We have moved them around year to year we use manure. any tips from websites, or experience.. THANKS

I was planning on starting an organic garden and I wanted to try and use only compost. I would rather avoid using the soil around me only because our yard is constantly sprayed with pesticides and herbicides.

Is there anything that I would need to add to the compost (besides soil or top soil) in order to grow plants? I would really want to avoid regular soil if possible.

I moved from a suburb and have been trying to grow a garden in the woods. This is the second year I’ve tried and am failing again. My pepper plants are being eaten alive by bugs, my tomato plants have black spots, the deer were eating some of them so I made cages. Spiders are laying eggs all over my plants and I’m washing them off everyday. Some of my plants are turning yellow. I had a great garden when I lived in the city. Can someone help me please!?

We have tried for 2years now, and we actually did get some small cobs, and then again the same thing last year. We thought it was location so we had moved them, and they still didn’t produce like we wanted them to. So if anyone has any tips or anything. We more then likely will be able to use it next year. Everything else does wonderful in our garden, so it is just strange. Well any ideas or anything that will help us with organic gardening would be greatly appreciated. Thanks for you help!!!
Actually we plant as early as we can without the cold killing them, but thanks anyway

A yellow Jacket nest fell from a tree right into my Organic garden. Not wanting to use any Toxic spray to rid my garden of the buggers I just put a bucket over the nest and packed topsoil around the rim. Will that environment kill them? How long would that take? or do I just need to put a hole in the bucket and pump in the RAID?
By the way this nest was in a hanging birdhouse and not in the ground.

I thought I’d create my own organic compost for my new garden and my father’s garden.
Has anyone attempted to harvest their own compost using Red Wrigglers or Earthworms in indoor bins?

If so, what’s the checklist of supplies needed -besides the worms?

Tricky question: How large do the bins need to be per worm amount?

What can you give the worms to eat? And what can you NOT give them???

How long does it take to finally get results??

Can someone give me a quick step-by-step guide to indoor worm-composting?
All tips welcome and much needed!!! :^)

Who here is still doing everything they hoped to on Earth Day? What is the hardest thing for you, recycling, driving less, not using a/c, less water, organic gardening?

We are still doing what we planned on. I drive very little now, and really don’t miss it. Our garden isn’t as productive as we would like, but we were short on rain for a month or so. We are still electricity junkies, for TV, computers and fans, but have really gotten into freecycling. How are you doing?

I have a garden in my backyard. I planted lettuce, carrots, watermelon, potatoes, onions, strawberries, raspberries, blueberries, catnip, tomatoes, basil, cilantro, cucumbers and peppers. There all spaced right, and I’ve added organic fertilizer (peat) and I keep my garden plants up on stakes, still they aren’t growing like a normal specimen would be. Its been almost 78 days since I planted everything, other than the stunted growth, they look very very healthy, and I clipped back most of the smaller leaves. Any tips on how I can make my garden grow?

I did not want to use any pesticide, but I will have no growth with my vegetables if I don’t conquer these bugs.

I tried soap and water but they keep coming back.
