This field on my property once was a farm field. They grew corn and stuff on it. Last year they just grew hay on it. Would there still be nasty pesticides etc on the field? I want to grow an organic garden.

I’m starting organic container gardening. What fruits, vegetables, and herbs can be grown in what type of containers? How big does a container need to be for dwarf size blueberries?
I’m probably going to grow: carrots, tomatoes, blueberries, strawberries, broccoli, lettuce, corn, peas, basil, thyme, cantaloupe, celery, cauliflower, and other stuff.
I am interested in starting an organic food garden. Can I use the seeds already in the fruit that I buy from the store in order to start growing them or do I have to go buy seeds?
I have one problem. My husband had Scott’s lawn service spray weed killer on the back yard and I’m afraid this chemical will hurt my vegetables. I thought of laying a layer of black plactic cover on the ground and adding new organic soil. Do you think this will solve the problem or cause more problems?

These are the fruits and vegetables that my family consumes constantly and our grocery bill is OUTRAGEOUS. Plus I’m trying to become more responsible concerning chemicals pesticides so I’d like to do this as naturally as possible. We don’t have many organic products to choose from in the stores around here, so I figure if I want to do this I’ll have to grow my own.
I don’t know the first thing about gardening - let alone organic gardening - so I’m feeling overwhelemed and don’t really know where to begin. Do you have some good advice or online resources that will help me get started? Also, any advice or resources on canning vegetables for the winter would also be appreciated. THANKS!!!!!!
